<p>A portable structure having no central pole or shaft is provided in which umbrella ribs (4, 28, 30) are pivotally mounted to a central hub (10). A canopy (14) is fastened to the ribs (4, 28, 30) and has a radial slit therein between one pair (28, 30) of adjacent ribs. Means, such as a zip fastener (20) is provided for releasably joining together the edges of the slit. With the radial slit unjoined the ribs (4, 28, 30), with the canopy (14) attached thereto, may be swung about their pivots between a gathered together for storage and carrying position and a pivoted outwardly to an "umbrella erected" position. <IMAGE></p> |
