The filter, with a filter material (16) round a support tube (10), has a support section (20) where the ends (18) of the filter material (16) are passed round. A mounting (22) secures the ends (18) of the filter material (16) and the support (20) in position along the support tube (10). The filter material (16) is of woven plastics or a metal woven, especially of fine steel, where the ends can be welded or fixed by an adhesive.
