A torsional vibration damper has a flywheel 6 rotatable with drive 2. A cancelling mass 17 having sunwheel 12 is connected to the flywheel, for relative rotation therewith, through circumferentially extending springs at 13 and through planetary gearing 10. The cancelling mass and flywheel are also connected to the associated compensating flywheel 9 through gear 10. Relative motion between mass 17 and flywheel 6 causes gearing 15 to drive the compensating flywheel 9 at a higher angular velocity, thereby increasing its inertia. In another arrangement the compensating flywheel is formed by one (27 Figs.4, 5) or two (20, 21, Figs 2, 3) linkages which also provide gearing and a centrifugal restoring force between the mass and flywheel. |
