Methods and apparatus are provided for analysing data requests in a computer network and proving data with particular transfer parameters in accordance with the request, such as bandwidth, burstiness, latency and jitter. Various ways of determining the appropriate transfer parameters include, analysing the node or user issuing the request, analysing the node serving the response, or analysing the request or response. Thus a specified level of service is provided, depending on the analysis, varying between high quality (TV, film, sound) to low quality (direct mail, advertising). Billing and usage logging is also possible.
