A process for preserving a liquid laundry starch concentrate containing starch or starch derivatives suspended in an aqueous xanthan solution by adding to the concentrate ethanol and a quaternary ammonium compound corresponding to general formula (I):In which R1 and R2 independently of one another represent a linear or branched alkyl group containing 8 to 18 carbon atoms and A- is a charge equalizing anion.
