SUBSTANCE: according to present invention, it is recommended to form working portion of die from zirconium-based alloy alloyed with Groups V-VI metals and oxygen. Surface of die and surface of channels formed in it is coated with zirconium dioxide layer modified with zirconium/nitrogen and zirconium/carbon compounds. It is recommended to use, as one of eligible alloys, alloy containing, wt.%: niobium 1-5, oxygen 0.05-0.20, zirconium being balance, as well as to use, as material for said protective coating, compound such as zirconium hydroxycarbonitride. proposed method for manufacturing die has following inventively novel features: workpiece made of zirconium-based alloy alloyed with Groups V-VI metals and oxygen is subjected to heat treatment before forming channels in die. Heat treatment is carried out until complete recrystallization of material of workpiece. Surface defects are removed by pickling workpiece until polished surface of channels and workpiece is obtained. After washing workpiece, its surface and that of channels are reinforced by chemico-thermal treatment in gas phase.
