PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antioxidant, having excellent antioxidant actions and high safety and utilizable as medicine, cosmetics, food additives, etc., by including an extract essence of a fruit of Phellodendron amurense as an active ingredient therein. SOLUTION: This antioxidant comprises an extract essence obtained by extracting a fruit of Phellodendron amurense with a solvent such as water or methanol as an active ingredient. For example, 500ml water is added to 50g fruit of the Phellondendron amurense and the resultant mixture is then heated at 100 deg.C for 30min to carry out extraction twice. The resultant extract solutions can be combined and freeze-dried to afford 16 g aqueous extract essence. Furthermore, 50g fruit of the Phellodendron amurense is heated with 500ml methanol at 50 deg.C for 30min and extracted with methanol twice and the resultant extract solutions are combined and vacuum concentrated to provide 10g methanol extract essence. Thereby, the antioxidant can suitably be used for foods, medicines, etc., in combination with few kinds of well-known antioxidants derived from a natural product such as ascorbic acid. |
