PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the viscosity of a high-concn. anionic surfactant by adding an unsatd. fatty acid-polyalkylene alkyl ester sulfonate or anα-sulfofatty acid- polyalkylene alkyl ester salt to the same. SOLUTION: An unsatd. fatty acid-polyalkylene alkyl ester obtd. by the addition polymn. of an alkylene oxide to an unsatd. fatty acid alkyl ester is reacted with sulfuric anhydride and neutralized with an alkali to give a sulfonate (A), and anα-sulfofatty acid alkyl ester and an alcohol having an alkylene glycol group are subjected to transesterification to give anα-sulfofatty acid polyalkylene alkyl ester salt. (B). Compd. A and/or compd. B is added to a high-concn. anionic surfactant (e.g. an alklyl ether sulfate) liq. contg. 30-60wt.% effective ingredient to give a surfactant liq. contg. about 1-25wt.% sulfonate, thus giving a high-concn. surfactant liq. with reduced viscosity.
