PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a refractory concurrently provided with corrosion resistance, spalling resistance and vibration resistance by adding a specified amount of cordierite to an alumina or alumina-silica based material. SOLUTION: This refractory comprises a refractory blend consisting of 1 to 15wt.% cordierite, 0.5 to 10wt.% fumed silica, 1 to 15wt.% alumina cement and 60 to 95wt.% alumina and/or alumina-silica based on 100wt.% of the refractory blend, metal fiber and a dispersant. Therefore, the refractory is provided with resistance to spalling by thermal shock, because of the low expansibility of cordierite and concurrently, cordierite has a function effective in providing the refractory material with vibration resistance. However, when the amount of cordierite exceeds the above upper limit, excessive vitrification occurs to reduce spalling resistance of the refractory. To prevent the reduction in spalling resistance of the refractory due to the excessive vitrification, the grain size of cordierite is preferably adjusted to >=0.3mm. |
