摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a variation type enzyme which is a precursor for a compound such as a steroid important for organisms, capable of synthesizing a straight-chain prenyl diphosphate having a longer chain length, by modifying a specific amino acid residue of prenyl diphosphate synthase. SOLUTION: This synthase is a variation type prenyl diphosphate synthase in which the acid residue positioned at the 5 residue N-end side from D of an N-end of DDXX(XX)D (two Xs in the parentheses may not exist) in an aspartic acid-rich domain existing in a second domain in a prenyl diphosphate synthase preserving domain is substituted with another amino acid. When the prenyl diphosphate synthase is a farnesyl diphosphate synthase, tyrosine at the 81-th position is substituted with another natural amino acid and the synthase is treated with farnesyl diphosphate to produce a >=20C prenyl diphosphate. A variation type enzyme of the example is obtained from the culture product of a host transformed by a vector containing a gene prepared by varying a DNA coding an amino acid sequence of the formula by partial specific mutation induction, etc.
