PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new polypeptide containing a specific amino acid sequence, exhibiting ribonucleotide reductase activity, having rate controlling function for the DNA synthesis essential for cell proliferation, and useful for developing anticancer agents, hyperplasia inhibitors, etc., through making use of the above- mentioned inhibition. SOLUTION: This new polypeptide virtually contains amino acid sequence(s) of formula I and/or formula II and has ribonucleotide reductase activity. This polypeptide has rate controlling function for the DNA biosynthesis essential for cell proliferation, being closely involved in hyperplasia, esp. high in activity in oncocytes, thus being useful for developing anticancer agents, hyperplasia inhibitors, etc. This polypeptide is obtained by the following process: a mRNA is isolated from the hydroxyurea-resistant strain of human leukemic cells, a cDNA is synthesized using the mRNA, and then subjected to PCR using the partial gene of a nucleotide reductase as primer, and the resultant gene is expressed. |
