PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare an antiinflammatory agent, comprising aescin Ib having angeloyl group or aescin IIb having the angeloyl group which is a saponin ingredient of a conker of Aesculus Hippocastanum L. or a mixture thereof as an active ingredient, excellent in quality and hardly causing dispersion in the quality. SOLUTION: This antiinflammatory agent comprises aescin Ib having angeloyl group or aescin IIb having the angeloyl group or a mixture thereof as an active ingredient. A roughly crushed conker of Aesculus Hippocastanum L. is immersed in methanol, allowed to stand for 3 days and then filtered to completely distill off the solvent under a reduced pressure. Thereby, a methanol extract is obtained and a small amount of water is added thereto to provide a pasty form. N-Butanol is subsequently added thereto and the obtained mixture is sufficiently shaken to collect the n-butanol layer, which is treated by a silica gel column chromatography to fractionate the methanol effluent part by high-performance liquid chromatography to afford the objective antiinflammatory agent comprising the aescin Ib, having the angeloyl group and represented by formula I (R is a group represented by formula II; Ac is acetyl) or aescin IIb, having the angeloyl group and represented by formula III or a mixture thereof as an active ingredient, excellent in quality and hardly causing dispersion in quality. |
