PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject fabric with a combination of a durable and high hygroscopicity and water repellency, also excellent in dimensional stability, and suitable for raincoats or sportswear excellent in washing handleability, mainly comprising polyester fiber coated with a specific resin. SOLUTION: This fabric mainly comprises polyester fiber which is obtained by coating the surface of the original fiber with a hygroscopic resin followed by coating the resin coat with a fluororesin-predominant water repellent. This fabric, which has a moisture absorption/release parameter (ΔMR) of >=1% and water repelling degree of >=80 points, can be sewn into a piece of clothing excellent in feeling when worn with no stuffy and/or sticky feeling.
