PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To economically, advantageously and simply separate the subject compound useful as a ferroelectric liquid crystal material or a medicinal intermediate forβ-blocking medicines or antibiotics, etc., in high optical purity from a mixture by an absorptive separation method by bringing a specific optically active diol derivative mixture into contact with an absorbent. SOLUTION: (A) An optically active diol derivative mixture obtained by reacting an optically active substance having a carbonyl such as (+) camphor or (-)-menthone with a mixture of R-isomer and S-isomer of a diol substance having an optically active point (e.g. 3-chloro-1,2-propanediol) is brought into contact with (B) an absorbent such as a zeolite [e.g. faujasite type zeolite (specifically Ba ion-exchange type X) or an aluminophosphate (specifically AlPO4 -5)]. |
