PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize the piling condition of coke at a furnace wall side by reducing the coke quantity at a firstly charge batch less than the coke quantity at a lastly charged batch, at the time of reducing the charging quantity of coke. SOLUTION: In a bell type blast furnace, at the time of increasing the ratio of O/C by reducing the charging quantity of coke, the charging quantity of coke is divided into two to charge the cokes. At this time, the coke quantity (1C) at the firstly charged batch is precedingly lowered so as to become 95-90% of the coke quantity (2C) at the lastly charged batch (1C)=ΔC×(2C), 0.90<=ΔC<=0.95. By this method, the coke piled condition at the furnace top is stabilized and the gas flow distribution in the furnace is stabilized. Therefore, the blast furnace operation stabilized at high level in a low fuel ratio can be kept.
