PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow the precise definition of the position of a heat generating resistor in a glaze layer to ensure a high printing quality by providing a head side positioning member for predetermining the distance between the electrodes at both sides of the maximum load line of the working pressure on an insulating layer of the thermal head with respect to a platen. SOLUTION: When a printing medium and an ink ribbon are supplied, in the pressure distribution in the vicinity of a heat generating element 36 of a thermal head, the maximum pressure load point G is at a position displaced by about 10μm in the supply direction of the printing medium and the ink ribbon. The first condition (definition) of achieving a high printing quality is that the center (central line) of the heat generating element 36, that is, the center (central line) between electrode layers 34 is in the range from a position displaced by half the length between the electrode layers L from the maximum load point G to the printing medium supply side and a position displaced by half the length between the electrode layers L to the printing medium discharge side.
