PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a safe hypnotic composition having excellent hypnotic actions without any adverse effects by blending a crude drug or a Chinese medicine having almost no or no hypnotic actions with diphenhydramipe. SOLUTION: This hypnotic composition comprises (A) at least one selected from the group consisting of Valerianae Radix (Valerian root) and Zizyphi Spinosi Semen and (B) diphenhydramine or its salt as active ingredients. Diphenhydramine hydrochloride is especially preferably used as the ingredient B. The composition is preferably used as a composition containing usually about 10-150mg diphenhydramine hydrochloride and about 130-1,600mg Valerianae Radix or a composition containing about 10-150mg diphenhydramine hydrochloride and about 180-2,500mg Zizyphi Spinosi Semen expressed in terms of the daily dose for an adult when used for treatment. Thereby, the extremely safe hypnotic agent having high hypnotic effects can be obtained. |
