A procedure for fitting a seal (1) to the edge of a motor vehicle doorway (2) with a projecting edge (4) comprises first attaching the seal to one point (2a) on the edge and then fitting the remainder with the aid of a vibrating hammer (5) with a hard head (6) which has a reciprocating percussion movement. The initial fitting of the seal can be at two points (2a,2b) at the top of the doorway, adjacent to the mid-body pillar (3a) and at the opposite corner, and a noise and vibration damper can be used between the hammer head and the seal. The hard hammer head can be of wood, metal preferably stainless steel, or polyamide.
