Vessel and closure assembly

The vessel has a cap (20) with an inverted skirt portion (46) inside the normal outer skirt (40) which forms an annular compartment (50). An orifice (54) in the portion of the inverted skirt portion surrounded by the annular compartment area contains a gas permeable membrane (56). A removable plug (22) can be used to seal the orifice. This consists of a cylindrical base (24), an intermediate flange (26) and a hanger tab (28).
