摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enlarge the radar observation region by subjecting a receiving signal from a receiver to polarization conversion to produce a horizontally polarized data and a vertically polarized data and then processing these data thereby detecting a boring pipe and other obstacles. SOLUTION: A polarization converting section 13 converts a set of a T polarized data from an antenna array 5a and an N polarized data from an antenna array 5b into a set of a horizontally polarized wave and a vertically polarized wave. Three-dimensional imaging sections 14a, 14b synthesizes a three-dimensional image using a horizontally polarized data and a vertically polarized data. A boring pipe detecting section 15 extracts the features of that image and detects the boring pipe. A pipe diameter estimating section 16 estimates the diameter of a boring pipe detected at the detecting section 15. Furthermore, an obstacle detecting section 17 detects an obstacle other than the boring pipe from the three-dimensional image. According to the method, observation range of radar is enlarged and the type and size of an obstacle can be estimated surely by producing a three-dimensional image.</p>
