PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rightly correct the error of the object area detecting result of an image by detecting a correcting part regarded as background and correcting the object area detecting result based on its output so as to output area data. SOLUTION: An inputted image is a monochromatic or color multi-level image and this inputted image is inputted to a calculation means 601. This means 601 executes not only edge calculation and optical flow calculation but the calculation of characteristics such as the brightness of the inputted picture. The output of this is provided for a detection means 603 with the result of object area detection. The means 603 detects a part which is regarded as an object area in spite of being background using the output of the means 601, and detects whether an area is an object area or not concerning areas which are not known about it. Then a correcting means 602 inputs the two outputs of the means 603 and the result of object area detection obtained by a prescribed method to correct the object area or the background area. |
