Receiver for high frequency radar system

The receiver includes a circuit (10) for receiving a radar signal reflected from a target. The received signal has a frequency variation in time which is dependent on the target. A processing unit applies a set of modifications to the received signal. A unit delays the modified signal as a fixed function of the frequency. A device identifies the particular modification of the set (if any) which produces the largest pulse output above a predetermined threshold from the delay unit. The combined effect of the processing unit and the delay unit is to produce a set of reproductions of the received signal each of which has been subject to one of a set of modifications in its frequency/time characteristic. The processing unit may include a mixer for processing the received signal with each of a set of selected signals.
