摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase a reliability of a communication system by assigning a standby signal path to a physical line different from a physical line by which an active signal path is secured, and switching the standby signal path to the active signal path when a fault occurs to the active signal path. SOLUTION: When a signal path 111 which is set as a physical line 100 is used as an active signal path and a fault occurs to this physical line 100 to disable the line to be used and is detected, ATM exchanges 1 and 2 checks the state of a physical line 200 where a standby signal path is provided. When the active signal path is arranged as the faulty line, the state of the physical line 200 where the standby signal path is provided is checked so as to perform switching to the standby signal path and when a transmission band for establishing the signal path 222 as an active signal path is secured, the signal path 222 is set to the active signal path and the signal path 111 of the physical line 100 is set as a standby signal path respectively, so that operation is restarted.</p>
