PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the destruction of the axisymmetrical orientation near an injection port without requiring intricate stages by making the size near the sealing material of a cell thickness which is the spacing between both substrates larger than the cell thickness size of the part on the inner side thereof. SOLUTION: The structure capable of uniformly axisymmetrically orienting a mixture composed of a liquid crystal material and monomers without increasing the progression speed of the mixture to pixel regions too much at the time of injecting the mixture into a cell is adopted. Namely, the cell thickness D near the sealing material is set larger than the cell thickness H of the display regions where the pixel exists. As a result, the mixture near the sealing material progresses preferentially and the uniform progression of the mixture from the peripheral part of a display region to the pixel regions is made possible. Then, the flow of the liquid crystals heretofore concentrated near the injection port disperses to the peripheral part and, therefore, the axisymmetrical orientation is uniformly formed without lowering the injection speed. The destruction of the orientation by the flow of the material near the injection port does not arise and the uniform axisymmetrical orientation is obtainable. |
