The end of a rotating vessel is sealed by a door carrying a treatment unit. The open end (5) of the vessel (2) is surrounded by a fixed frame (16) holding a seal (18), but not in contact with it. A treatment assembly (6) is moved into position at the end of the vessel. It includes a flat plate (20) which is pressed against the end of the vessel and a hinged flap (22) which covers the lower part of the vessel opening when moved into its vertical position. This is done by a motorised piston (36) which also locks the cover and flap in position.
