A plastic syringe has a system which neutralises it after its first use, comprising a hollow plunger rod (5) and a piston with a spring clip which separates it from the piston at the end of the first pressure stroke. The piston is 1 cm deep and has holes in its upper face to engage with the spring clip, releasing it after application of a pressure. The hollow plunger rod can be used to store the syringe needle after giving an injection. The piston and plunger can be linked by various types of couplings which separate on retraction of the plunger and the syringe can be in a form which ejects a dose of an injectable liquid from a capsule with a needle by compressed air.
