PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF ENZYME GRANULES

A process for the production of enzyme granules, characterized by comprising the step (a) of mixing a granule-forming composition which comprises enzyme and 10 to 40 % by weight of a thermoplastic water-soluble binder having a melting or softening point of 35 to 80 DEG C and is substantially free from water and the step (b) of extrusion-molding the mixture obtained in the step (a) at a temperature of the melting or softening point of the binder or above; and a detergent composition comprising the enzyme granules produced by the process and a detergent. The process can give enzyme granules reduced in the lowering of the enzymatic activity. The enzyme granules produced by the process have a narrow particle size distribution and therefore are difficult to classify even when added to a detergent. Further, the process permits a high degree of freedom in the formulation and is advantageous in that the materials little adhere to the inside wall of the machine used in the production.
