A process for recycling mixtures of plastic materials containing heavier particles which exceed a certain weight and/or density involves sorting the heavier from the lighter materials and feeding the former to separate milling and sieving equipment (11-45). The plant for processing plastic mixtures includes separating heavy and light materials and a separate heavier material processing plant (11-45) includes a milling stage (22) and a fine particle sieve (31). Also claimed is a further process for processing rigid plastics and involves milling the process material in a hammer mill (22), sieving off fine particles and pneumatically removing light material, e.g. paper or film. The plant for processing rigid plastics comprises a milling stage (22), a fine particle sieve (31) and a suction unit (35) for drawing off lighter materials.
