CLOCK RECOVERY IN A SYNCHRONOUS TRANSMISSION SYSTEM RECEIVER

A clock recovery device is disclosed. The recovery of a transmitter clock from a signal received by a receiver is known. The estimate of the delay between the transmitter clock and the receiver clock is thus highly distorted, particularly in terms of amplitude, as it is derived from the received signal. The device may be used to provide a low-noise delay estimation regardless of the received signal amplitude. For this purpose, the device combines a maximum number of samples available over a baud period to generate a quantity representative of the delay beta . In a particularly advantageous embodiment, said quantity is equal to tg( beta ), where tg is the tangent function and beta is the delay to be determined. Said device is useful in synchronous transmission systems, particularly modems, etc.
