<p>A displacer assembly (14) for use in a thermal regenerative machine (10) has a housing (16) with a displacer bore (23) configured to carry a displacer (20) in the displacer bore (23). A flexure bearing assembly (24, 26) is configured to carry the displacer (20) in axial reciprocation within the displacer bore (23) to form a clearance seal (48) therebetween. A gas spring bore (62) is formed within the displacer assembly (14) and communicates with a gas spring volume (70) defined by a volume forming member (58). A gas spring piston (57) is carried within the gas spring bore (62) and is configured to form a clearance seal (68) therebetween. The gas spring piston (57) and the gas spring bore (62) cooperate with the volume forming member (58) to form a gas spring therebetween. One of the gas spring bore (62) and gas spring piston (57) is carried in fixed relation with the housing (16) while the other of the gas spring bore (62) and the gas spring piston (57) is carried by the displacer (20) for relative reciprocation therebetween.</p> |
