The arrangement contains a triggering device (1) with a control circuit (11) for controlling a light source (12) and an optical transmission device e.g. an optical fibre (2) for transferring an optical signal from the light source to an igniter (3) in the restraint device. The control circuit causes an optical test signal to be sent by the light source. The triggering device has an evaluation circuit (13) for evaluating an optical light signal transferred via the optical transmission device to the triggering device and received by a light receiver (14). The triggering device can generate a blocking signal depending on the evaluated light signal which can prevent the transmission of an ignition signal.
