The starter motor has a starter body with a housing (11). The housing has several fastening points (12) for additional switches. A motor (1) is carried by the housing (11). A pinion (2) can be brought into or out of engagement with a hollow wheel of the motor (1). The pinion is rotated by the drive force of the motor (1). A gear is provided to transmit the drive force of the motor (1) to the pinion (3). The gear is arranged in the housing (11). A magnetic switch (4) is provided to retract the pinion (3) into the wheel, to push the pinion from the wheel and to switch a current to the motor (1) on and off. The magnetic switch is fastened to the housing (11). An additional switch (8) is provided for switching on and off a current for exciting the magnetic switch (4). The additional switch (8) is attached to one of the fastening seats (12) for additional switches.
