PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the output cost and to easily confirm the edited result. SOLUTION: Concerning the inputted original image, a color area detection part 1 detects the same color area while using the block area of 3×3 picture elements based on image information a* and b*, detects the color boundary of that area and turns a reset signal RES to '1' only at the color boundary part of the same color area. Only when the reset signal RES is '1', an AND circuit 2 outputs luminosity information L* to an image output part. According to the image information a* and b* and the luminosity information L* supplied through the AND circuit 2, the image output part performs color printing. Therefore, only at the color boundary part of the same color area, the color tone/pattern (shade) of original is outputted as it is.
