PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a photoreceptor from being damaged and a printed matter from having turbulent dot shape by specifying the grid content of a carbon black and the ash content respectively to a specific value or below. SOLUTION: This pigment composition for liquid toner is prepared by dissolving and dispersing carbon black and a resin in a non-aqueous solvent, the grid content of the carbon black is <=100ppm and the ash content is <=0.5wt.%. The carbon black <=10ppm, preferably <=5ppm in the grid content is obtained by suspending, for example, a carbon black having properties of 10-100nm average particle diameter, 40-30ml/100g dibutyl phthalage(DBP) absorption, 20-1000m<2> /g specific surface area and pH2-10 in water to prepare a solution having 1-100 poise viscosity and treating with a wet vibrating screen or a supersonic classifier to remove impurities having >=44μm size.
