An arrangement for applying a liquid or paste-form coating medium (12) to a moving web (4) of material (especially paper or paperboard) comprises an adjustable (16) coating medium pre-metering device (V) and an adjustable final coating medium metering device (E) downstream of the first. Both are able to adjust a longitudinal or cross-machine profile of the coating medium. A measurement device (M) is placed between the two metering devices (V,E), and is incorporated into a control circuit (,R1,R2) for the metering devices (V,E). The device continuously measures, either directly or indirectly, a longitudinal or cross-machine coating profile and/or other specific properties of the coating medium applied by the pre-metering device (V) before and/or after application.
