A modular system for assembling sectional furniture items (15), comprising at least two suitably shaped shoulders (20) which are provided with a plurality of holes (25) and to which said sectional furniture items (15) are fixed by junction pegs (40, 40A, 30). The terminal parts (30) of the junction pegs (40, 40A, 30) are T-shaped and are inserted into grooves (30A, 30B) in the furniture item (15) such that its position can be varied from a minimum to a maximum height from the floor by simple manual operations. The sectional furniture items (15) mounted by the modular system of the present invention can be used by children for the entire period of their development, from birth to about 6-7 years of age, by merely varying their height from the floor in a simple and quick manner.
