Transdermal administration of levosimendan or (-)-¢¢4-(1,4,5,6-tetrahydro-4-methyl-6-oxo-3-pyridazinyl)phenyl!hydrazono!propanedinitrile or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is disclosed. Transdermal preparations of levosimendan can be in the form of e.g. ointment, emulsion, lotion, solution, gel, cream, patch or transdermal delivery device including iontophoretic device.
