The cover is provided by a stiff cover foil (21) extending between the side edges of the sliding inserts (1), for covering the entire cable reception space, to prevent physical damage to the optical fibre cables. The foil cover has retaining tongues (23,24) which fit into corresponding openings provided in at least one of the sidewalls (3,4,9) and/or the base (2) of the sliding insert, to prevent accidental removal of the cover.
