<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a modifier comprising an olefin/polar monomer (e.g. acrylic acid monomer) copolymer produce by using new catalyst containing a specified transition metal compound and suited for many uses. SOLUTION: This modifier comprises an olefin/polar monomer copolymer obtained by using a catalyst containing a transition metal compound represented by formula I (wherein M is a group 8-10 transition metal in the periodic table; X<1> and X<2> are each N or P; R<1> and R<2> are each H or a hydrocarbon group, m and n are each 1 or 2; R<3> is a group represented by formula II; R<6> to R<72> in formula II are each H or a hydrocarbon group; R<4> and R<5> are each H, a halogen, hydrocarbon group, -OR<8> or the like; and R<8> is an alkyl, organosilyl or the like and being excellent in transparency, heat resistance, etc. Examples of the transition metal compounds include those represented by formula III and IV. The polar monomer as a comonomer is methyl (methyl)acrylate, vinyl ketone, vinyl acetate or (meth)acrylic acid. The olefin used is desirably ethylene.</p> |
