PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coating pigment having a high glossiness and good print gloss despite of reduced solid content by compounding a carbonate-containing pigment with a specific particle size distribution, water, a binder and other additives. SOLUTION: This coating pigment is prepared by compounding 28-51wt.% of water, 43-64wt.% of a pigment containing a carbonate such as calcium carbonate having the following particle size distribution: the content of <=2μm particle size is 100wt.%, <=1μm is 94-100wt.%, <=0.5μm is 75-94wt.% and <=0.2μm is 31-59wt.%, the statistic mean particle size of 0.18-0.28μm and has the specific surface area of 19-26m<2> /g according to the BET method (N2 , DIN 66, 131) and 6-8wt.% of other binder and additives.
