摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas purification catalyst which displays an outstanding purification performance under server thermal conditions and also hard vibration conditions. SOLUTION: This gas purification catalyst for an internal combustion engine constituted of a metal carrier 3 and a catalyst carrying layer for a catalytic substance consists of an undercoat layer formed by applying a heat resistant inorganic oxide with superior adhesion with a metal to the surface of the carrier 3 and the catalyst carrying layer obtained by making an alumina layer to carry platinum and rhodium on the undercoat layer. Thus the catalyst carrying layer is bonded to the carrier 3 through the undercoat layer in a perfectly adhesive condition, and therefore, the incidence of peeling and falling of the platinum and the rhodium is minimized even when the carrier 3 is thermally inflated or vibrated. Consequently, it is possible to inhibit the deterioration of the purification performance to the minimum possible extent.
