PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce d-biotin useful as pharmaceuticals, food additives, etc., in high yield by culturing a microorganism resistant to a biotin metabolism antagonistic substance and belonging to the genus Kurthia under specific condition. SOLUTION: A microorganism resistant to a biotin metabolism antagonistic substance (e.g. acidomycin), capable of producing d-biotin and belonging to the genus Kurthia, e.g. Kurthia SP538-KA26 (DSM No.10609) is cultured in a medium under aerobic condition and the produced d-biotin is separated from the fermented broth. d-Biotin can be produced in a yield as high as about 5-200 times the yield attained by the use of a strain belonging to the genus Bacillus or Serratia. |
