Mould for continuous casting of metals

Metals are continuously cast using a mould (1) comprising side walls in two part lengths (4,5), which are made of different materials. Preferably the material at the inlet end has a higher thermal or electrical conductivity than the material for the outlet end. The outlet end may have a higher strength and wear resistance than that at the inlet end. The inlet section may have a larger cross section than the outlet section and may have a convexity which reduces in the casting direction. The two sections are preferably welded together by electron beam welding.
