<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition for absorbing ultraviolet rays, having a pearly gross of a stable quality without having a scatter of color tone, excellent in touch to a skin and transparency, and useful for a make up cosmetic material by adding an aqueous solution of a cerium salt, etc., to a suspension of a plate- like barium sulfate and treating the mixture under a specific condition. SOLUTION: This composition for absorbing ultraviolet rays is obtained by containing a plate-like barium sulfate coated with zinc sulfate, cerium oxide or titanium oxide, which is obtained by suspending a plate-like barium sulfate having 3-70μm mean particle diameter and 0.05-2μm mean value of thickness into water, adding an aqueous solution of a zinc salt, a cerium salt or titanyl sulfate, adding one or more kinds of aqueous solutions selected from a group consisting of an aqueous ammonia and aqueous solutions of an alkaline hydroxide, an alkaline carbonate, ammonium carbonate and ammonium hydrogen carbonate, and then filtering the suspension, drying and burning.</p> |
