PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hydrophilic fiber having persistent hydrophilicity and excellent safety, and to obtain a cloth-like article obtained from the fiber. SOLUTION: This hydrophilic fiber is obtained by sticking a finishing agent comprising 2-90wt.% of the below composition (A) and 10-80wt.% of the below composition (B) to a fiber comprising a thermoplastic resin having a water absorption percent of <=1wt.% in an amount of 0.1-1.0wt.% based on the weight of the fiber. (A) The composition comprises 0-75wt.% of a sorbitan 12-18C alkyl fatty acid ester and 25-100wt.% of at least one kind of compound selected from the 5-20 mole ethylene oxide adducts of the sorbitan 12-18C alkyl fatty acid ester. (B) At least one kind of compound selected from a white mineral oil, the diester of a 12-18C alkylfatty acid with polyethylene glycol having a mol/wt/ of 200-600, the dister of a 12-18C alkylfatty acid with polypropylene glycol having a mol.wt. of 200-600, a pluronic type nonionic surfactant, and a 8-16C alkylsulfonic acid metal salt. |
