PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize an effective volume whose magnetic field gradient is linear, in relation to a gradient coil device by providing a first gradient coil device and a second gradient coil device which is arranged in such a state as rotating about the axis by a specific angle thereto and differentiating the number of coil pairs of respective gradient coil devices. SOLUTION: A gradient coil system is provided with a first gradient coil device 6 which generates a gradient magnetic field having the x-directional magnetic gradient and a second gradient coil device 8 which is arranged in such a state as rotating about the axis with an angle by 90 degrees relative to the gradient coil device 6 and generates a gradient magnetic field having the y-directional magnetic field gradient. The respective gradient coil devices 6, 8 have coil pairs 10 which are spaced apart in the axial direction and formed from two gradient coils 12 respectively, the respective gradient coils 12 are arranged opposed to each other in the side of the (z) coordinates axis and have internal winding parts 14 adjoining to an effective volume 4 and outer winding parts 16, and the radius ratio of the respective winding parts 14, 16 are in the range of 1.4∼1.6.
