Printing machine for continuous label webs

The machine has a feed to advance and guide the band and a printing head (34) with a printer (36) to come into contact with successive labels.. The actuators position the printing head in contact with a the band at a set spacing from the front edge of each label. The actuators hold the printing head in contact for a predetermined part of the feed path of the web and remove the head during a second part of the movement. The first and second parts of the movement can be contiguous and can alternate. The actuator can include a solenoid and a photoelectric cell to initiate it.
