DEVICE FOR TRANSFERRING AND PROCESSING A HUMID FIBROUS MASS

The present invention relates to a device for transporting a humid fibrous mass and for heating and/or mixing said mass with a liquid or gaseous chemical reagent, wherein said device may be used in the cellulosic paper industry. This device comprises a vertical body having a reception hopper and an endless screw. This endless screw is mounted coaxial to the body and comprises two zones, i.e. a zone in the shape of a truncated cone for loading the humid fibrous mass and a zone for compacting the humid fibrous mass. The compacting zone abuts the smallest turn of the loading zone and comprises turns with a diameter corresponding to that of said smallest turn. The diameters of the largest and smallest turns in the loading zone are defined by the relation d<2>max min (c1/c2) where d max is the diameter of the endless screw largest turn, d min is the diameter of the endless screw smallest turn, c1 is the specific volume of the fibrous mass at the inlet of the endless screw loading zone and c2 is the specific volume of the fibrous mass at the outlet of the endless screw compacting zone. The body also includes a mixing chamber which is coaxial to the shaft of the endless screw and which is located at some distance from the last turn of said screw so that the disperser is located within said mixing chamber at its inlet. The mixing chamber is fitted with a discharge duct for the processed fibrous mass, with a transport agent feeding system and, if required, with a superheated steam feeding system and/or a chemical reagent feeding system. This device may be used simultaneously for effectively mixing the chemical reagent and for transporting and uniformly heating the humid fibrous mass at a high concentration between 16 and 90 wt.%. The present system may be used for reducing the surface area required for the production as well as for reducing power consumption.
