A roller assembly (20) which has a roll (22) made of a durable plastic and a shaft (24) and washers made of stainless steel. The roller rotates freely about the shaft and has no bearing between the roller and shaft. Two sets of crimp deformations (46, 48) on one end of the shaft function to hold the washers (52, 54) and roller on the shaft. The end of the shaft upon which the roller is mounted is located entirely within a bore (30) in the roller.
