The converter has a barrel-shaped housing (11) that can be mounted on a frame (19). The housing has a dome (15) as a lid in which are located three high voltage insulators for overhead cables in a row or in a triangle. Inside the housing are three voltage converter units (13). The housing and its lead-ins are designed for gas insulation. The converter units work on an optical or capacitative principle.
